Ric's Teaching Bio

I have been a professional guitarist, singer/song writer and performer for over twenty-five years and I have been teaching guitar privately and in music schools for over seventeen years.

My curriculum is based on the knowledge and experience I have gained performing in a wide array of bands and styles designed to take a student from beginner to advanced. Whether it's rock, blues, folk or jazz. I can provide a jazz/classical education (Applied Music - Mohawk College) that includes chords, progressions, rhythms, scales, improvisation and ear training; all while learning a song of your choice or composing your own tune.

I am a band coach with the RBC Bluesfest - Be In The Band program coaching bands at Notra Dame High School and Almonte and District High School. I have also have run a teaching group for guitar lessons as part of the Music program at Almonte and District High School. I've also served as the musical director for the YA! Band, an after school performance band at ADHS.

I am an Honours Graduate from the Applied Music Program at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ont. During that time I won the ‘Mohawk College Board of Governors Arts Award’ for original music composition.

I am dedicated to my craft and keep in top form by remaining plugged in to the current styles and trends of music, and by equally exploring music of the past and continually expanding my knowledge and ability. I bring all of this forward in a positive relaxed manner that is designed to make learning to play guitar an enjoyable experience at whatever pace a student is comfortable with.
